HRP DWS #3: Aug 10th, 12PM EST | PBL, Experiential Ed. Workshop

35.00

Saturday, Aug 10th, 12PM EST | 9AM PST

The Discovery Web Series isn’t a one-size-fits-all conference. We’re not taking your time to sell a book or exclusive “member only” service. Instead, we want to use our expertise, coupled with our free resources and your knowledge, to build better foundations for your school or classroom.

Our biggest pet peeve in professional development is teaching educators a way we wouldn’t to our students. There’s no long-winded lectures here. Instead, we’re working in a small, close-knit cohort for changes you can actually utilize:

  • We’re limited to 20 participants. Every person has a valuable voice. We highly encourage webcams and/or microphones so everyone can help one another.

  • The price is approachable and sustainable. Keeping this series running takes time and resources, but we want everyone to be able to attend.

  • Our resources are human-centered and curtailed to our audience. We focus on motivation and a lifelong love of learning over test scores. We’ll provide research-backed resources that bolster your knowledge of progressive ed. and will help you reflect on improving your practice.

  • *A mic and/or webcam is highly encouraged due to the interactive nature of this web conference, but text-only may be used!

We do things differently. Outside of a few introductory activities, we’re tackling every situation in our cohort as a group. We’ll listen to situations, tackle objectives, and ensure that every educator leaves with personalized, sustainable tools and strategies. In this virtual workshop, you will:

  • Understand the “why” of experiential learning and its phrasing “PBL”

  • Receive a plethora of reflective activities and documents used to support your quest to intrinsically motivate students. These resources may prove useful in explaining the “why” to students, parents, and administrators.

  • Work one-on-one and in an interactive large group setting to find support in incorporating this practice at your school, no matter the setting. We will work together to crowdsource problem-solving and connect on human-centered practice. Our goal as facilitators is to guide, not tell.

  • Create your own project ideas that could be expanded on in the upcoming year, based off student experiences, interests, and your “why.”

  • Incorporate PBL to engage your local community and bring student work to the forefront, as well as radicalize the curriculum.

  • Experience a true example of critical pedagogy as we break-down the “instructor leads, others follow” model.

  • Avoid a verbose, expensive lecture and instead be supplemented materials to get started in the upcoming school year! We keep our price low to make this sustainable, while encouraging everyday educators to join.

*A mic and/or webcam is highly encouraged due to the interactive nature of this web conference, but text-only may be used! Participants will be sent a Zoom meeting link. Zoom can be installed here.
