Burton is a music educator in Central VA interested in pushing the boundaries of traditional paradigms to reach more students. He is fascinated by the intersection of music & maker-centered learning.

With 2 1/2 decades under her belt and a fair amount of gumption, Catherine embraces the human experience through learning as a student of life and through the daily interactions with the middle schoolers that call her Miss Catherine. She enjoys turning a skein or two of yarn into blankets, headbands, and other crocheted goodies, all while protecting said yarn from her boldly curious felines. A Muskegon native, Catherine enjoys the farmer’s market, supporting local businesses, and bon fires (ideally with marshmallow roasting).

Chris McNutt is the co-founder and executive director of Human Restoration Project and former high school digital design & history teacher. His work centers on realizing systems-based change, examining how progressive pedagogical shifts (e.g. PBL, ungrading) reimagine school to best suit the needs of students and teachers alike.

Chris Zorn is an artist, musician and educator, mentored in the practices and mindsets of contemplative and deep ecological education. For the past three decades, he has applied the principles and practices of ecosocial literacy to deepen the learning experience for students of all ages from kindergarteners to seniors. In response to the multiple growing crises of planetary and human health and well-being, he developed a year-long transdisciplinary leadership course, Transforming Ecosocial Leadership, which offers older students (grades 10 and up) the opportunity to immerse themselves in the mindsets and daily practices of ecosocial literacy. He applies the same underlying principles and practices in his work with younger students. He holds a Masters Degree in Ethnomusicology from the University of Colorado at Boulder and has taught at CU Boulder, Naropa University, a number of community colleges, private and public schools, the Honolulu Museum of Art School and many other locations. For the past 20 years he has taught music, art, social and emotional learning, and leadership at the University Laboratory School to students of every grade level.

Dan is a social studies teacher in California. Formerly of the Peace Corps and international schools, Dan has a keen interest in creating school systems and culture that emphasize meaning and purpose.

David is currently working with a wonderful team at Kindred World, a US based non-profit sharing the new story of childhood, to create the Kindred Fellowship Program.

Dr. Amber Strong Makaiau is a Specialist at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, Director of Curriculum and Research at the Uehiro Academy for Philosophy and Ethics in Education, Director of the Hanahau‘oli School Professional Development Center, and Co-Director of the Progressive Philosophy and Pedagogy MEd Interdisciplinary Education, Curriculum Studies program. A former Hawai‘i State Department of Education high school social studies teacher, her work in education is focused around promoting a more just and equitable democracy for today’s children. Dr. Makaiau lives in Honolulu where she enjoys spending time in the ocean with her husband and two children.

Emma Chiappetta teaches mathematics at Wasatch Academy in Central Utah. In her classroom, Emma focuses on educating each student individually by facilitating a competency-based curriculum in which students learn the material at their own pace through a medium of their choosing.

Emma McMain is an Assistant Professor in Educational Statistics and Research Methods at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR. Her teaching and scholarship explore how daily discourses (ways of sense-making about the world) and affects (ways of sensing the world) shape our identities, relationships, and social practices. Much of her work focuses on the potential of social and emotional learning (SEL) to both foster and undermine equity.

Eric is an English/Drama teacher at Sparhawk School in Amesbury, MA. He collaborates with artists, writers, actors, journalists, and other professionals to bring learning to life for students.

Mal had intended to be an English teacher, to share a love of stories but also a belief that stories are the building blocks of the universe! That’s what we are all made of, and it’s what we are doing every time we connect and interact with one another...telling stories, with every breath. Which makes reading and understanding them so much more than academic! We have to know what kinds of stories we mean to tell. Having wandered out of a story that wasn’t his after all, he’s currently lost in exploring the study of media literacy through Dungeons and Dragons, or ELAD&D.
